Flair Miami t-shirts? What!?!

I could seriously throw up with all of the mixed emotions I feel right now. (I’m excited, I’m nervous, I feel like I am about to catch a cold, my body aches, I’m slightly dizzy and sluggish — but nonetheless, I am pumped!)

As a Miami lifestyle and fashion blogger, I’ve had so many opportunities that I really thought were unimaginable. Today, I am overjoyed to let you know that Flair Miami has a line of Miami-inspired tees!

Starting this Saturday, Flair Miami can be your one stop shop for Miami-inspired tees. We partnered with Drops of Honey Designs and together, we’ll be launching the line at this year’s Escape Miami 3 Style Lounge! The event is hosted by local blogger The Fashion Poet, The Shelbourne Wyndham Grand Hotel and Peroni US. At #EscapeMiami3 you can expect pop-up shops from brands like L*Space, Italia Independent, Bianca Coletti and many more… Oh yeah, let’s not forget Flair Miami. Ahhhh! Okay, let’s play it cool and pretend to not be so excited. Oh you know, it’s just a regular day…

So, if you’re around the Miami area for Swim Week festivities, escape the madness and join us at Escape Miami 3 for some complimentary brow and lash services, manicures, make-up applications and more. The place will be filled with interactive installations and free goodies, like a DIY flower crown station, fashion illustrations from The Architect of Style, and even live on-site cigar rolling and domino tables. (See fellas, I think of you too!)

Also don’t miss out on the poolside fashion show held at 2:30pm. There you’ll see the full collection of what’s available at our Flair Miami Shop. In the meantime here’s a sneak peek at one of the designs. PS: As of now, we have a total of 6 shirts — 3 for women and 3 for men. If you follow @FlairMiamiStyle on Instagram, you’ll get to see them all!

Move over, little black dress because this little white dress is here to stay!

A simple little white dress should be a staple piece in every girl’s closet. It is incredibly versatile and it’s a great way to amp up your summer style.

I personally own a few white dresses, but they are all very different.  This little white dress was a recent purchase from one of my many online finds. Again, I took a risk and it was well worth it. I guess you can say I’m a gifted online shopper. Ah, who knew I had such talent. ;)

As you already know, I’m a big fan of dresses. They’re light, breezy and easy! Plus, this dress can go from beach-time to brunch-ready with a simple change of shoes. I added a pop of color and a light denim jacket — giving this simple look a stylish pop of flair. (Oh, and yes after a long hunt…. I found the perfect light denim jacket, and it was only $34! Thanks Old Navy!)

How do you wear your LWD?

SHOP THE LOOK:

The weekend comes to an end and a new week awaits. Feelings of stress, anxiety, perhaps even sadness start to arise, and we call it the Monday blues… But why is that a bad thing? Is it possible to change our perspective?

Today, I’m changing mine. I resolve to bask in Monday and all its glory, even it’s blues. ;)

I know what you’re thinking… ” Easy for you to say! Don’t you work from home?” Actually, I do and sometimes working from home is kind of boring. Yeah, I too have deadlines and a set of tasks to accomplish. But working from home takes a lot more discipline than you think, specially when you’re a chatterbox like me. I need to intentionally schedule some social interactions, I find that it actually helps stimulate my mind.

Anyway, today I am super excited to welcome Monday and even more, I am extremely pumped about what July has in store. Stay tuned and save the date for July 18! I’ll spill the beans soon. Promise!

Oh yeah, and did you notice the Flair upgrade? Take that Monday!

How are you beating the Monday blues?

If you happen to be visiting Miami, the Wynwood Food Tour is a must! Wynwood has easily turned into one of Miami’s trendiest neighborhoods. It is home to about 70+ art galleries and over 100 restaurants that exhibit the eclectic taste of our culture. A few weeks back, the hubby and I had the privilege of spending a Saturday afternoon walking the streets of this vibrant neighborhood with Miami Culinary Tours.

The lovely Mirka, (a fellow Miami-Beach local) was our guide and she curated a wonderful Wynwood food tour where she joyously introduced the neighborhood’s art, cuisine and culture. Her cheerful spirit and historical Miami-knowledge was a breath of fresh air. The Miami weather however, eh not so fresh! It was as hot as can be, but the food and drinks made it all worthwhile. ;)

As any loyal foodie would, I ate anything and everything that was placed before me. We made several stops along the way, and I even managed to saved room for dessert. The total tour time was about 2.5 hours, we visited about 6 different restaurants and had way more than a full lunch…

Our culinary Wynwood food tour advventure went as follows:

  1. Wynwood Walls Wynwood Doors – This was our meeting spot, here we learned about the street art and got some 411 about local, national, and international artists.
    DSC_0534
  2. Wynwood Kitchen & Bar – Our first stop was this well-known hip restaurant offering a tapa-style menu. Chef Miguel Aguilar sent us some ropa vieja empanadas, tequenos & sweet plantains — these were paired with a local cold brew. The perfect starter!

  3. R House Restaurant & Gallery – Then we headed to this unique restaurant/art gallery serving an eclectic mix of American, Mediterranean, Latin and Asian cuisines. Here, we had a brisket hoagie roll that was paired with a perfect bite of zesty corn.DSC_0568

  4. Made In Italy Gourmet – After a few bites, we made a pit stop at this rustic and quaint Italian gourmet market, it was a small flashback of Sienna. We sampled some fresh bread and stinky cheese? ( I forgot the name of it, I wasn’t a big fan.) But the place was adorable! Next time, I’d go back and try an actual meal.DSC_0595
  5. Jimmy’z Kitchen – Oh Jimmy! My mouth waters at the thought of this delectable Puerto Rican-style mofongo ( fried-mashed plantains) & chicken. This hit the spot!DSC_0587
  6. Suviche –  After almost suffering from a food comma, we stopped by Suviche and sipped on a pisco sour. Though Jimmy may have been my favorite meal, Suviche definitely took the cake for best ambiance.
  7. Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop –  Last but not least, we ended the food tour with the world famous key lime pie — made by an all time favorite local Derek, a City of Miami firefighter, fighting fires by day and baking by night.DSC_0593

My favorite part? Need you ask? The killer mofongo from Jimmy’z Kitchen and learning about the different graffiti artists featured on the Wynwood Walls and Wynwood Doors.

Whether you’re a Miami local or just popping by to check out the city, I highly recommend you check out any of their food tours. Miami Culinary Tours also offers tours around South Beach and Little Havana. Next on our list, we may just check out South Beach Food Tour. What about you?

Oh, the matching trend! I love that fact that it has gone from cool, to un-cool, and now back to cool!

This chic look is definitely summer’s must have, the matching sets trend. These coordinated pieces can be worn by all ages and can help you look vibrant and youthful — just in time for the summer.

Even within the trend itself, the options are endless. There is subtle prints, loud prints, high-cuts, low-cuts, crop tops, midi-skirt, shorts, to even high-fashion sets. Play with the options and find a style that is suitable for you.

I found this ensemble while browsing online. My husband likes to call it the “Greek princess-look.” ;) When I bought it, I wasn’t sure if it was even going to fit, or if I would be happy with the quality and material. But it was so affordable that I had to give it a try… To my surprise, yet another online purchase that I love!

The great thing about matching sets is that you can wear the pieces separately and have versatile options.

Looking for other matching sets? Here are a few others I found.

After realizing how much I shop at Zara, I decided to take a small break from malls and other large retailers. I wish I could tell you that I haven’t shopped all month, but that would be a lie.

However, what I can tell you is that I’ve found quite a few affordable online stores. Not on purpose, I just happen to stumble upon them while browsing the internet and working from home.

Actually, for those of you that didn’t know, I’m officially a full-time blogger!

It’s been about a month since I decided to step down from my job at Christ Journey. I have a few fun projects lined-up, can’t share them just yet – but soon enough I’ll spill the beans. Promise. Anyway, in the meantime I’m also doing a little freelance writing and brand consulting.

I’m not sure how I feel about the whole “working-from-home” part, just yet. I’m very much a social being, therefore, human-interaction is pivotal. ;)

But, on yucky cloudy days that prevent me from working out of a coffee shop, I find myself taking breaks and browsing the web — finding tons of affordable online stores. You know, do a little work, take a little break, browse. Yikes! What have I gotten myself into?

The good news, is that they are actually super affordable! Here are a some of my finds…

  1. 2020 Ave
  2. Dorothy Perkins
  3. She In
  4. Zaful
  5. Modilly
  6. Missguided
  7. Choies
  8. Oasap
  9. UrbanOg
  10. A’gaci

I must admit, I’ve always been a little hesitant to shop online. I’m a feel and try-on kind of shopper. A few days back, I took a chance on a few items, and so far so good. I’ll let you know what I think as the other pieces arrive. For now, here’s a look at my first order.

BELLATONE

It seems that nowadays everyone loves dancing and exercising at the same time … We workouts like Vixen, Zumba and even Reggae Fit Cized. The good thing is that 3 out of 4 of these dance workouts were originated here in our own Miami. Including a dance class Bellatone-fusion 30 min to help you get the bikini body you need in just a short time!

It is no surprise that people like Miami shake what mom gave them! ;) I included. Recently I started back to the gym, and although I love lifting weights, I also like taking breaks here and there with a couple of dance classes.

Well, last week, I had the privilege of going to Bellatone at Crunch Gym in Washington Avenue and it was all a blast! Imagine a mix between Shakira and the Latin flavor of salsa … That’s Bellatone. Inspired by dance and traditional belly-dancing salsa moves – the combination is perfect for curing the body.

You’re not doing twerking the public? Do not worry, no twerking involved. (At least, not in the class fuy.) But if you’re a little introverted and prefer to exercise in the comfort of your home, now you can try CrunchLive.com, register and get unlimited access to more than 70 training sessions line – all the popular classes including Bellatone Crunch.

Also, as reader Miami Flair and The Miamian, you can get a free trial of 7 days. Be sure to use the code Flair7 and Kamila Cardenas, Miami superstar interpreter will join with you anywhere, anytime on a screen nearby. ;)

Glowing flawless skin, everybody wants it… More than a having a chic outfit, or wearing the latest make-up trend — gorgeous, flawless skin is very much coveted. And these days, there are so many different articles, magazines and sources that tell us how to achieve a healthy and youthful glow. But, is it just me, or do these methods and steps to healthy skin constantly change? As a consumer, it seems like the more I read, the more overwhelmed with information I become. I just want clear and concise steps to achieve a natural healthy glow.  Skin varies and changes with age, weather, and complexions, and it’s important to know your skin type and care for it accordingly. I personally, haven’t always cared for my skin adequately. But, as soon as I said goodbye to my 20’s, I realized that having a healthy skin regimen is a must. So, here are 5 easy steps to healthy skin:

    1. Wear SPF daily. Even on rainy days. Sun-damage is hard to reverse, therefore, avoid being under the sun between 10a-2p. If you must sun-bathe (as I often do), make sure that you re-apply your sunscreen and that your sun-block is no lower than SPF 15 . Also, be sure that your SPF is labeled “broad-spetrum”, meaning that it protects against both UVA and UVB rays. (If you plan on being outdoors for several hours, re-apply every 2-3 hours.) I wear Neutrogena’s Visibly Even Daily Moisturizer.
    2. Have a simple cleansing routine. Washing your face is a simple task, but it is extremely important and beneficial. I recommend washing it once in the morning, and once more before going to bed. Throughout the day, your face is subjected to dirt, debri, bacteria and pollutants. Daily removal of such impurities is crucial to having healthy skin. I recommend any of the Neutrogena Naturals line, because they gently cleanses without the use of harsh chemicals, sulfates or paragons.
    3. Exfoliate the skin regularly. Through exfoliation you remove dead-skin cells and reveal new skin underneath.  Exfoliation can be done professionally both mechanically and chemically, but it can also be done at home. When old skin begins to layer on your face, skin starts to look dull and dry. Removing the old skin and allowing the new skin to regenerate will guarantee healthier and younger looking skin. I exfoliate once a week with a homemade coconut oil scrub.
    4. Use anti-oxidants and serums. The biggest difference between serums and creams, is that serums penetrate the skin faster and deeper. They have a higher concentration of anti-aging/hydrating ingredients without the use of extra fluids. However, it is really the active ingredients that defines the serum. Antioxidant rich serums (such as those rich in Vitamin C) tend to work well at preventing oxidative strain from pollution and UV radiation that we are all exposed to during the day, making them ideal for application under a sunscreen in the morning. These multifunctional serums work to protect the skin as well as improve the evenness of the skin tone and reduce the number and depth of facial wrinkles,” says Dermatologist Dr. Adam Geyer.  I use the Trilane Retinol + Vitamin C that provides me with the right amount of antioxidants and retinol, giving my skin a luminous and brighter feel. (Purchase it using the code SAVERTC and get 20% off.)
    5. Hydrate, moisturize, hydrate. Proper hydration is crucial for a healthy glow. Not only does your skin need to be properly hydrated, but so does your entire body. If your skin is dry/flacky, it is a clear sign that your body longs for hydration and moisturizer. Dry skin is more prone to wrinkles and loses its elasticity faster. Therefore, drinking water and moisturizing your skin (even if you have oily skin) will help fight wrinkles and seal in the moisture. Find the right moisturizer for you…. I’m still in the hunt for a good one. I recommend that you moisturize, twice a day everyday!

Note: I am by no means a skin expert or dermatologist, (I am just like you, learning through trial and error) but over the past few weeks a few of you have asked what I use on my skin on a regular basis. So, there you have it!

What products have you found that work for you?

Olive oil, argan oil, avocado oil, sesame oil… The options and choices for oils these days are endless. Plus, vegetable oil, and canola oil are so passé.

But, once in a while we get introduced to products that capture our attention and change our lives — oh, the endless ways to use coconut oil.

It’s no secret that coconut oil is all the rage, but what’s the big deal, really? And what can you actually use it for?

This household item is incredibly versatile and can actually do some pretty amazing things. The best part is that it is affordable (I get mine from Trader Joe’s for $5.99) and can easily become an all-in-one staple product in any home.

Here are 10 easy ways to use coconut oil:

  1. Cooking. Known for being a great medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA) coconut oil is perfect for cooking and frying at high-heats. Although high in saturated fat, coconut oil can withstand higher temperatures, allowing it to also keep its nutritional value.
  2. Moisturizing. Coconut oil is safe for all skin types, and easily penetrates the skin. Apply a thin layer to your skin for an anti-aging moisturizer filled with Vitamin E & antibacterial/antioxidant goodness.
  3. Coffee Creamer. Replace half and half, milk and creamers for a tablespoon of coconut oil. You’ll get just the right amount of flavor plus an extra boost of energy.
  4. Oil Pulling is a natural and traditional teeth whitening method. Place 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil in your mouth, swish it around for 15-20 minutes, spit (into a trash can to avoid clogging), rinse and brush. Repeat daily, for about a month and over time, this will whiten your teeth, cleanse your gums and boost your oral health!
  5. Body Scrub. If you’re into DIY projects, coconut oil will be your new best friend. Mix 1/2 cup of coconut oil with 1/4 cup of granulated brown sugar, and you’ve got yourself the perfect homemade body scrub. For an added hint of scent, feel free to add some citrus zest or a few drops of essential oil.
  6. Deodorant. Let’s get real… Nobody wants body odor. But like many products and antipersiporants, the deodorant you buy at your local drug store is most likely filled with aluminum, parabens and a bunch of other junk that’s not good for you. But fear not, coconut oil, can satisfy all your armpit needs as it also kills off bacteria and yeast. All you need to make your own deaodorant is baking soda, root powder, and of course coconut oil. Here’s a great recipe you can follow.
  7. Hair Conditioning. Coconut oil also works as a great deep-conditioning treatment on either wet or dry hair, it’s 100% natural and free of silicones and other harsh chemicals that can damage your hair.  Just massage a few tablespoons to dry or damp hair, comb through hair from roots to ends, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes with a shower cap. For dry damaged hair, you may also sit under a dryer and apply low-heat.
  8. Lip balm and lip scrub. Dry chapped lips? You guessed it, dab a little coconut oil overnight and it does the trick. Flaky lips? Mix it with some sea salt for the perfect lip scrub.
  9. Shaving. Toss that shaving cream that leaves you all itchy and is overly scented, replace it with some good ol’ coconut oil. Rub a generous amount on your legs, shave and rinse. Once you’re done, you won’t even need to apply lotion.
  10. Eye make-up remover.  No rubbing or tugging required, coconut oil gently glides through your skin removing all the unwanted eye-makeup, all while moisturizing your skin.

Do you know of any other uses that I haven’t mentioned? Share them with us and let us know…

Last week, I did a little Spring cleaning… I browsed through my closet for a few hours trying to decide what I actually wear vs. what just sits there collecting dust, and taking up precious closet-space.  Though I normally find things like sorting, and cleaning quite therapeutic — after completing my purging process, I came to the sad realization that I’m a little too Zara obsessed. Womp, womp, womp!

I mean, it wasn’t a total surprise. Zara has always had a special place in my heart. In fact, if I truly confess, there have been countless times that I’ve wanted to shoot an outfit post, but I hold back because I’m dressed in Zara from head-to-toe.

“How boring, people are going to think I’m Zara obsessed,” I often tell my husband.

Well, I kind of am… (Can you blame me? Zara clothes fits so well!)

Anyway, there you have it, a head-to-toe Zara look…

In the meantime, I’ll try to expand my horizons and shop in different places, do you have any suggestions?
