Confession #1: No, I am not pregnant. Sorry if the pictures I’ve been posting on Instagram and the title of this post made you think otherwise. ;)

Confession #2: I have thought about deleting the fitness tab of my blog at least 2x this year. (Buuuut, I wont… ) And if any fitness/health gurus out there want to contribute, I’m always up for a collaboration. Just shoot me an email.

Confession #3: 99% of the time, the only drink available in my house is water. (Sorry, I’m not really sorry. I love love love water and you should too!)

Human survival is dependent on water – It is known that the human body can last weeks without food, but only a few days without water. Weather, health, and living conditions can factor into how long you can live without water. But on average, if you go 3-5 days without any water intake, you will perish. Yikes!

Also, did you know that as you age your body loses water content? Upon birth, our body is made up of 90% water… But average adults have about 70% water content and with age the percentage decreases to about 60-50%.

Therefore, today’s post… You guessed it, it’s a tribute to H2O! Here are 10 ways that water can improve your health & fitness.

  1. Drinking water increases your metabolism and can help with weight loss.
  2. Water moisturizes from within and nourishes your skin.
  3. Drinking water can give you smoother & shinier hair.
  4. Water brightens you eyes and can reduce puffiness.
  5. Water boosts your energy and lowers stress.
  6. Drinking water helps build muscle.
  7. Water prevents muscle cramping & lubricates joints.
  8. Water shrinks pores & prevents future breakouts.
  9. Water helps with digestion and constipation.
  10. And best of all, it saves money!

Ready to increase your water intake? Here are 10 tips to help your daily water consumption.

  1. Set an alarm! In fact, as soon as your morning alarm goes off and you’re out of bed, start your day with a glass full of water. This will get your metabolism off to a good start!
  2. Keep water bottles in different locations, in your car, office, or gym bag.
  3. Infuse your water with flavor. Add lemon/lime or any fruit to spice-up your water.
  4. When eating out, avoid ordering sodas or juices and ask for good ol’ tap water instead.
  5. Challenge a friend to a healthy competition. Who can drink 8 glasses a day first? Having an exciting prize at the end of the week may help. ;)
  6. Drink at least 2 glasses per meal, one before and one after.
  7. Drinking juice? Dilute it with water, it also saves you some calories…
  8. Enjoy a nice warm herbal tea as an afternoon treat!
  9. Invest in a good filter.
  10. Consume more watermelon, cucumber, celery & oranges. These fruits and vegetables are not only delicious but they also offer a high water content which will help your hydration.

There you have it! Now go on, take a sip and enjoy the benefits…. Ahhhh!

It’s almost time to ring in the new year! Twenty-fourteen is just around the corner and here I am, shocked Christmas is over and we are just days away from the big 2-0-1-4.  Seriously, how did we get here so fast?  At the end of each month, I found myself saying, “Where did this month go?” and now I find myself saying, “Where did this year go?!”

Is this what it feels like to grow up? The days/months/years just start to flash before your eyes? CAN WE SLOW DOWN?!

It seems like it was just yesterday I was writing last years “CELEBRATING NYE” post. No, really… It feels like yesterday. But as I think back on this year, and as I look through all of our posts, I realize what an exciting and successful year it truly has been for Flair Miami.  So, in honor of this year I decided to mention my top 5 FlairMiami highlight moments of 2013.

        1. The Next Face of Rimmel London – This was fun and completely unexpected.  I was at Miami International Fashion Week, where I was asked to sign up for a Rimmel London modeling contest (yes little 5’1 me) and next thing I knew I was selected as one of the top 20 finalist in the nation.  Okay, so I ended up not winning…but it was definitely a highlight from this year! It is a memory I will never forget and it’s all because of Flair Miami that I even stumbled across the opportunity!
        2. Flair Miami Turns 1!  – HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLASHBACK! When I first started on this journey with Flair Miami I never would have thought I’d be able to be a part of the special one year anniversary.  It is just the beginning and I am more than thankful to be able to be a part of it all! To many more birthdays and Flair Miami celebrations!
        3. Style, Sweets & Sips – In honor of Flair Miami’s one year, we decided to celebrate with style, sweets, and sips.  Thanks to all the bloggers who participated in making our one year unforgettable! It was also during this same time that Sabrina joined our team for the summer…actually it was at this very party that I met the lovely Sabrina! When I think back to this time, I think about nothing but fun! I am positive we were all on a Flair Miami high this summer! ;)
        4. Fashion for a Cause – Thanks to The Fashion Poet and Peace, Love, World, Flair Miami was able to be a part of Fashion For A Cause during breast cancer awareness month! This was definitely one of the highlights of my year with Flair Miami!
        5. Miami Web Awards Nomination –  Remember that time Flair Miami got nominated as one of the top fashion blogs in Miami? Oh yeah! That was last month! I think that pretty much sums up this whole year, and although we did not go home with the prize we are happy to say we were nominated and we are even more happy for our friend The Fashion Poet, Annie Vasquez, for winning!

With this year coming to a close and all the wonderful things we were be able to be a part of, I feel extra thankful for 2013 and the opportunities I was able to partake in because of Vannia & the blog.  So, thank you Vannia for not only being such  a wonderful friend, but for truly taking your time to include me & make me a part of Flair Miami! I am beyond thankful!

And thank you to the blogger community and all the readers! We couldn’t have done half of the things we did this year with-out you! To many  more years filled with fun…but even more with FLAIR!

OH SWEET HONEY BUN!

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but Black Friday is in full effect. Though there are definitely a few great sales out there, I must say, I’m not really a big fan of shopping when everyone and their grandma is out bargain hunting as well. So instead, I wanted to share with you a little taste of Miami’s (well Homestead’s technically) best honey buns, and a few things for which I am thankful.

If you’re not quite done with the “gobble till you wobble” Thanksgiving theme and you’ve got still got a sweet tooth, head on over to Knauss Berry Farm. There you’ll find the best honey buns and milk shakes around town! Be prepared for a line as the farm only opens November – mid April, so this is prime time.

I’m not even a huge sweets fan, but their honey buns are right out of the oven and quite scrumptious!

pensive truckThe whole experience there is just fun and different, it reminds me that I love this time of year! Temperature drops, families come together, and it’s time to reflect on the blessings that surround you.

So, here are mine: (Warning, this may get a little sappy.)

  • Family: I truly cannot even begin to express how blessed I am with the wonderful family that surrounds me. From my hard-working single mom who raised me to be the woman that I am today; to my awesome husband who puts up with my craziness every day. Yesterday, the walls of my little home echoed with laughter, kids screaming, voices singing, and moms chatting… It filled my heart with joy. Thank you God for every one of them!
  • Life/Health: I know it seems a little general for me to be thankful for life as a whole, but I am! The very air that fills my lungs today is a gift that I cannot take for granted, and though my life isn’t always filled with rainbows and butterflies… I’m even thankful for the hard times in between.
  • Friends: Life is so much sweeter when moments of joy are shared with friends! So in the spirit of thanksgiving, I’m not only thankful for friends that I personally know and do life with, I’m also thankful for those of you who I’ve known in the past and others who I’ve yet to meet. Blogging and social media has really brought this whole friendship thing to a whole new level, and I like it! I love that even in the blogging world there’s a little community of people who collaborate and build each other up. I love that YOU have helped me grow, and that through YOU a silly little blog idea became an accomplishment. So with a grateful heart to YOU I give thanks!01-DSC_0017

THE NEW GUY CODE

Honor, obedience, nobility, ownership, and respect…

What comes to mind when you read those words?

For Ché Scott, author of I Like Girls: The New Guy Code, these are not just words, but rather a way of life…

Perhaps you’re wondering, who is Ché, and what is this really all about? Well, as we introduce you to this wholesome, handsome man today; we hope you’ll also be challenged to take a stand with him and help make a change…

Ché, is a former University of Miami Football player, a licensed minister, a life coach, and a chaplain for the Miami Heat and UM Hurricanes. He believes in challenging others to find a higher level of thinking, and his biggest dream is for the new generation of men.

Ché believes that honor is to be at the center of all relationships and he is committed to engaging our current culture in this conversation. Through his book, he challenges young men to consider the true value of women while explaining what it looks like to “honor the girl.”

So what’s next and how can you be involved?  On December 18, there will be a South Florida Signing Day, where participating 8th grade boys throughout our region will sign a covenant of honor. All those agreeing to this promise will be certified and recognized locally for making this commitment. Want to get your affiliated school involved? Email Info@NewGuyCode.com. Or, you can order your very own book today and see what the fuss is all about!

You can also checkout Ché ‘s very first book interview as he shares his future plans with Michele Gillen from CBS 4.

This is not only a worthy cause, but also a great book! We recommend it not only to 8th graders, but also to a brother, cousin and even a father.

A few weeks ago, I went to Oklahoma to do a little research for work. Though I loved getting out of town and visiting a new state, as soon as I got back to Miami I was truly thankful to live here. I missed the weather, the culture, the ocean, I missed it ALL! I love my city!

Well, since I’m yet again smitten by our culture and all the things Miami has to offer, here’s a list of what’s happening around town this month… Enjoy!

Don’t you just love the 305? See you around. ;)

I don’t know about you, but doesn’t if feel like this year has completely flown by?

Does anyone ever have time for rest and relaxation anymore? Before you know it, it’s Halloween, Thanksgiving, then Christmas… Then hello New Year, yikes!

Well, in the midst of this non-stop, on-the-go life of mine, I’ve had a few people ask me all sorts of beauty questions lately. From: What hair product I use, to what mascara I recommend? Thus, today’s post.

Here are a few of my current beauty favorites…

5 beauty

  1. Smashbox–  Limitless Longwear Lipgloss – boundless: Oh the magic of gloss… It gives that effortless look with just the right amount of color and shine, great for both day and night!
  2. Bobbi Brown – Lash Glamour Lengthening Mascara: Perfectly separated long  lashes are hard to come by, but with this olive-derived, Vitamin B mascara I can be smudge-free all day long!
  3. Deva Curl – Light Defining Gel: This product is probably my best friend, not only does it help me avoid frizz, but it also defines my curls by locking in the good moisture and keeping out the bad. I don’t leave my house without this puppy! It’s part of my curly hair regimen.
  4. essie – blue rhapsody: Regardless of how busy you are, every girl needs a good mani and pedi — and this pop of blue metallic feels like a fun jazz song unveiling before me, shiny yet matte with a mix of cool  and sheen.
  5. Resvology – Age Corrective Eye Cream: Who says we can’t turn back time or at least slow it down? This lightweight, hydrating eye cream minimizes lines and wrinkles, as it firms, tightens and refines your eyes. Oh and did I mention it’s paraben and sulfate free? Yup, I’m a fan!

There you have it! Those are my little go-to beauty weapons for long work days. What are some of yours?

*This post is sponsored and backed by Resvology. All content reflects my honest and personal opinion.*
