CURLY VS STRAIGHT

Hair… Curly vs straight?!jonathon powell, hair, fashion, stylist, curly vs straight hair

It’s either too curly or it’s too straight. It has too much volume (and eventually turns to frizz) or its too flat & won’t even stay up.

Truth is, the age-old question remains: What’s better curly or straight hair? And is there such thing as too curly or too straight?

Here is my curly vs straight hair resolution: Love your own crowning glory & find the product that’s right for you!

hydracurls, green soothing, jonathan products, curly vs straight hair

If there’s one thing I’m known for… It is definitely my hair. You know, I’m the “girl with the curls.” And over the years, I’ve definitely learned to love & tame the mane. That wasn’t always the case, in fact, my middle school years where quite disastrous for my hair-life. (LA Looks was my saving grace. Eeeek, gross! Let’s pretend I never said that. I wouldn’t put that junk in my hair today, even if you paid me!! And don’t worry I wont show you pictures or should I? ;) ) Thank goodness middle school was only 3 years of my life & now, I know better styling products exist.

Even though I eventually learned to style & manage my hair, the question still remains… Curly vs straight? Well, after spending some time observing hair trends at this year’s Mercedes Benz Swim Week. Guess what I found? Both are equally stylish & equally beautiful and with the help of Jonathan Products you can achieve any of the looks with ease! See for yourself:

For the Poko Pano show, lead hair stylist, Jonathon Powell created a sleek & sultry look using GG Gatsby’s new collection of straightening hair products. The models looked stunning!

Powell  was also the lead stylist for the L*Space – Monica Wise show where he created a sexy “wet look” bringing the perfect beach waves to our humid Miami beaches. “The Water is Waiting” theme inspired his hairstyles and the new Hydracurls collection helped bring them to life by adding the perfect blend of flirty & fun.

So, how do you wear your hair and what products have you found work for you?

So where will you be celebrating this weekend? Maybe I will see you around town! :)

On a regular Sunday morning, most people would rather go to the beach, enjoy some family time, or even spend an extra few hours in bed instead of going to church… But for some reason, not on Easter Sunday.

Typically, Easter and Christmas are the highest attended times where the average “unchurched” and “irreligious” person attends church.  But why? What is it about Easter and Christmas that draws people to church? Is it a desire for something more? Is it Christians? Is it Jesus?

In fact, in one way or another haven’t you heard people say “I’m spiritual, but not really into religion.” Or, “I Like Jesus… but can’t stand Christians.” Have you ever felt this way?

I know I have! And chances are that someone or something claiming to be “Christian” has probably given you and others a reason to keep their distance from church. Perhaps a “hypocrite Christ-follower” tainted the idea of Jesus and even more from religion, especially with all the ” record of do’s and don’ts”. But deep inside, I hope you know Jesus is way more than what any human can ever reflect! (Because after all, we are all sinners.)

For this very reason, Christ Journey Church (my church) is launching a challenging three-week series that will help tackle some of the most common barriers that keep people away from “Christians and Christianity.”

We did our research, and here’s what we found:

So, what’s your take on Christians? Will you be attending an Easter service? Why or why not?

No matter who you are or what you believe in, you’re invited to join the conversation this Easter weekend.  Join live at our Miami locations or online at ChristJourney.tv, you can tune-in from anywhere around the world. Check it out and let me know what you think… Happy Easter!

♫ I’m a grooooown woman, I can do whatever I want. I’m a grooooown woman…

Though I can’t say I’ve grown in stature since my high school & college years, ;) I can say that I’ve learned quite a few life-lessons throughout. Therefore, I have grown after all. I’m a grooooown woman & I can do whatever I want. And I chose this… Because after all, wisdom does come with age.

Here are 10 sings you’re a grown woman/man:

    1. You search for a greater purpose and help others.
Life eventually stops evolving around you. Your realize that other people’s needs are also important & there are others who have way bigger than problems you do. You acknowledge that life is fleeting & choose to be a part of something bigger. So you learn to love God & love others & live well
    2. Family matters…
Yelling at your parents because they wouldn’t extend your curfew… Getting mad at mom because she wouldn’t give you privacy, & fighting with your siblings for the remote control… These things eventually become a thing of the past. Family is precious, they really did want the best for you (Okay, maybe not your entire family, but most…) & they still do! You make time for them & don’t miss an opportunity to show them you care!
    3. Friendships don’t just happen.
Seeing your friends in the hallways, catching up during lunch, & having hours to talk on the phone was a huge commodity. As you get older, you fall into the 9-5 routine and learn it’s no longer as easy to stay in touch. Eventually, you also learn to prioritize your time & make time for the friends that matter. True friendship lasts a lifetime & it’s okay to pick up right where you left-off, regardless of your age/stage.
    4. You stop searching for the “perfect” one.
You realize that no one is perfect & that love is an action verb. It takes time & effort. But you’re perfectly okay with the work that it entails — because in the end if you’re with the right person, it’s worth every minute!
    5. You fail forward!
Chances are that at some point in your life something or someone will probably fail you. Heck, even your own ideas don’t always work as they should. But you don’t beat yourself up over it, you get up and try again. You keep the innovation coming, but try to not repeat the same mistake. You just make new ones…
    6. You stop comparing.
You learn that you were fearfully and wonderfully made. Your days of constantly comparing are far behind you. You know YOUR gifts, talents and passions, and you grow them. You are a unique and beautiful being, and you’re okay with that!
    7. You are not anxious… You think of the future but live in the now.
Thinking of the future, saving for retirement, not getting into debt, and setting goals are all good things. But if they slowly become obsessions and you forget to cherish the small details of life, they become bad things. Now, you take time to smell the flowers, you treat yourself to a good meal and do it with the ones you love. You have no time to worry about tomorrow, you enjoy the present and plan wisely for a better tomorrow.
    8. Change is inevitable, and you like it that way.
People change, jobs change, you change, and you embrace it. Change is constant and it will remain. Whatever the change may be, you take a leap of faith and learn to just go with it.
    9. You are comfortable in your own skin.
Whether you like it or not, you’re stuck with yourself, and that is perfectly okay with you. You’ve learned to embrace your looks & your body! You think twice when eating fast food, drink lots of water, exercise regularly and dress to flatter your best feature.
    10. The sun is not your friend.
You moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! You spend a little extra cash on serums, SPF & moisturizers … Eventually, you even start seeing it as a good investment. There, I said it!

PS: A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to talk about this topic with Fusion’s Alicia Menendez, 99 Jamz’ Felisha Monet, and TTWN’s traffic reporter, Jennifer Riley in the AM Tonight edition of “That’s What She Said.” Check out the video below.

Are you a grown man or woman yet? How do you know? Join the convo…

WYNWOOD LIFE

Not long ago, Wynwood Life was just a blog that celebrated life in the Wynwood neighborhood… But now, the site has organically evolved into a festival that’s poised to raise the bar on all things Miami –art, music, fashion and food!

Wynwood Life will take place in Miami’s hip Wynwood district on 6th Avenue, between 22nd and 24th Street and will run from April 25th-27th. The idea behind this festival stemmed from the need to highlight local artists, craftsmen and designers. Organizers are expecting over 20,000 people during this three-day event.

Top area vendors and artists, have signed up to be a part of it. Even musicians, local bands and DJ’s will be performing from two stages, including the top of this Trek6, boom box-painted building that overlooks I-95.

Think next-level Art Walk, offering local pop-up restaurants, bars, live music, art, and more. As far as fashion, throughout the day several vendors will showcase local designs modeled and styled by a few of your favorite bloggers. And yup, you guessed it your Flair Miami girls will be there to model and style a few looks.

This is an event you don’t want to miss, tickets start as low as $15 and can be purchased online at www.wynwoodlife.com. Use the promotion code FLAIRMIA at checkout and you’ll receive a 50% discount! Hope to see you there!

Inhale. Hold it in. Exhale. Hold it out. Repeat.

If you know me, and you’ve been following Flair Miami since I started writing for it, you know I am a huge yoga fan.  I love everything about yoga – the way it allows me to clear my mind after a long day, the fun that it is to work and practice different poses, and the feeling of accomplishment when I get a certain pose (I’m coming for you, scorpion).

In just an hour my body transforms from downward dog, to crow, to cobra, camel, pigeon… and by the time the hour is done I feel strong, stretchy, bendy, and stress free.

Screen Shot 2014-02-12 at 12.24.46 PM

Yoga is more than the poses I can do on the mat, but it is about the way I live my life off the mat.  It is about having gratitude, and focusing on THIS particular moment. Are you still with me? Take a moment to do just that – to BREATHE.

My yoga journey has been on and off for two years and I can finally say I think I found my yogi home! Thanks to the wonderful, friendly, and extremely talented staff at Kendall Hot Yoga, I’ve been able to accomplish far more than I could ever imagine! Whether I want to wind down from a long day with a warm vinyasa or push my limits with hot power yoga, I always leave feeling encouraged, with a clear mind. So now I want to spread that encouragement and challenge you to join me for a class! There is nothing to lose, and I promise you won’t regret it.

You can find class times here & first timers get a few perks:

– Buy one class for $22 get the second class free
– 5 class pack – $65
– 1 Month unlimited pack – $120.

They are also having a Valentine’s Day special starting Thursday, February 13th at 8pm and ending Sunday at 4pm — you can bring a loved one for free – sister, lover, mother – anyone you love and want to share your gratitude with.

So what do you say? Will I be seeing you on the mat? I hope so! And don’t forget to let them know that Flair Miami sent you ;)

Namaste!
