OFF THE WALL

The weather is warm, the days are getting longer, and it is finally spring. This time of year calls for airy, light clothes, and a refreshing stop at a local ice cream shop. But not just any ice cream shop. I am talking about one of a kind, special to Miami deliciousness – Walls Old Fashion Ice Cream.

Walls Old Fashioned Ice Cream is a must-go for the fellow ice cream lover. On top of the fact that they are family owned, their ice cream and fudge is all home made. And let me also add that their rocky road flavor is one of my favorites in town!

On this delicious outing I thought I’d keep it airy by wearing a pair of palazzo pants from Forever 21 and a cropped top. In case you weren’t aware, Forever 21 has a huge selection of palazzo pants and I’m dying to go back for my next find!

FOREVER

She rises in the morning, her feet hit the ground and she’s ready to take on a new day.

But this day, would be like no other… Perhaps it was the flawless and powdery snow that slowly fell as she looked out the window, landing perfectly still and possessing so much beauty. She marveled at God’s creation for what felt like forever.

Then it hit her, these minutes, hours, even days that pass her by would never again be repeated. Phrases like “I’ll do it tomorrow, forever and ever, and maybe someday,” took a whole new meaning.

Forever – without end, everlasting, eternal. But what exactly did forever look like and is there such a time as this? How does one live in the now and keep eternity in mind?

King Solomon, the author of Ecclesiastes explained it best:

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

2     a time to be born and a time to die,
    a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3     a time to kill and a time to heal,
    a time to tear down and a time to build,
4     a time to weep and a time to laugh,
    a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5     a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
    a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6     a time to search and a time to give up,
    a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7     a time to tear and a time to mend,
    a time to be silent and a time to speak,

…. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. She took a deep breath, embraced Virginia weather and all that surrounded her, both good and bad. Though she realized that forever was still a mystery, today, this day was a time to live, to love and to laugh. It was a day to be thankful for the gift of the present and to dwell in His love and fullness of joy.

OH SWEET HONEY BUN!

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but Black Friday is in full effect. Though there are definitely a few great sales out there, I must say, I’m not really a big fan of shopping when everyone and their grandma is out bargain hunting as well. So instead, I wanted to share with you a little taste of Miami’s (well Homestead’s technically) best honey buns, and a few things for which I am thankful.

If you’re not quite done with the “gobble till you wobble” Thanksgiving theme and you’ve got still got a sweet tooth, head on over to Knauss Berry Farm. There you’ll find the best honey buns and milk shakes around town! Be prepared for a line as the farm only opens November – mid April, so this is prime time.

I’m not even a huge sweets fan, but their honey buns are right out of the oven and quite scrumptious!

The whole experience there is just fun and different, it reminds me that I love this time of year! Temperature drops, families come together, and it’s time to reflect on the blessings that surround you.

So, here are mine: (Warning, this may get a little sappy.)

Family: I truly cannot even begin to express how blessed I am with the wonderful family that surrounds me. From my hard-working single mom who raised me to be the woman that I am today; to my awesome husband who puts up with my craziness every day. Yesterday, the walls of my little home echoed with laughter, kids screaming, voices singing, and moms chatting… It filled my heart with joy. Thank you God for every one of them!
Life/Health: I know it seems a little general for me to be thankful for life as a whole, but I am! The very air that fills my lungs today is a gift that I cannot take for granted, and though my life isn’t always filled with rainbows and butterflies… I’m even thankful for the hard times in between.
Friends: Life is so much sweeter when moments of joy are shared with friends! So in the spirit of thanksgiving, I’m not only thankful for friends that I personally know and do life with, I’m also thankful for those of you who I’ve known in the past and others who I’ve yet to meet. Blogging and social media has really brought this whole friendship thing to a whole new level, and I like it! I love that even in the blogging world there’s a little community of people who collaborate and build each other up. I love that YOU have helped me grow, and that through YOU a silly little blog idea became an accomplishment. So with a grateful heart to YOU I give thanks!

Did you know that here in America, 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year? And just this year alone (2013), over 39,000 women lost their lives battling breast cancer? Ready to combine our powers and tackle this battle? Here’s how you can help…

Over 30 South Florida Fashion & Beauty Bloggers have joined forces for the month of October to raise funds for breast cancer.

For this year’s Fashion for a Cause Campaign, bloggers teamed up with Miami brand Peace Love World, we modeled and styled their new breast cancer collection to raise proceeds for Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation. Our goal is to raise funds, honor & encourage all the strong women fighting against breast cancer– because “where there is hope, there is life.”

FEARLESS FLORALS

They say April showers, bring May flowers…

Well, I’ve yet to see the flowers, looks like instead it’s the perfect time to bring out the galoshas and add my own pop of florals!

In case you haven’t noticed, floral print is all the rage this Spring. From tops, bottoms, to even accessories; every fashionista has a good floral print. So whether you’re looking for a feminine touch, or a bold statement, florals are here to save the day. (In my case, even this gloomy weather.)

Not sure how to pair a floral print?

Floral blouse:
-For a classy look: pair with white pants/skirt or light denim and neutral heels
-For a fun bright look: pair with colored jeans, neon skirts, or high-waisted shorts and wedges
Floral shorts/pants:
– For a classy look: pair with a white silky top or pastel colored tops and nude strappy heels
– For a casual look: pair with a chambray shirt (like me!) or a thin muscle tank and flats
Floral blazers:
-For a classy look: pair with black pants/skirt and black pumps
-For a bold look: pair with leather bottoms and add another pop of color with fun shoes

FOR THE LOVE OF CONSIGNMENT

A few months ago I came across this great little consignment shop called The Recycled Closet, and before I knew it, it became one of my favorite go-to spots for trendy, affordable pieces.

From Forever 21 to French Connection, The Recycled Closet has it all, and not only do they have great brand name pieces but they also have GREAT prices. What else could a girl possibly want?

Starting as a mother-daughter business, The Recycled Closet opened in 2008 with two consigners and now, four years later, it has over 1,000 consigners who love the store and the owner, Jennifer Kaloti. Her love for retail is apparent throughout her store. Each piece is selected by Jennifer herself, and she sure does choose them well! What makes her shop unique is that they specialize in premium trend labels for “teens and the young at heart.” Basically, anyone can shop there!

So, for those of you not sure how it works, The Recycled Closet is a traditional consignment store, which means, the consigner’s product must sell in order for them to receive their 40% earnings. How great is that? Clean out your closet and make a little money? I’m sold!

I have to be honest though, my favorite part of consignment is finding great affordable pieces, and what I personally love about Jennifer’s store is that every piece looks brand new or is brand new with tags.

If these great finds aren’t enough for you, then how about shopping from “Dolla Holla” bins? Yes, I said DOLLA HOLLA! Unsold items eventually end up in The Recycled Closet’s famous “Dolla Holla” bins. Everything is marked down to either two or five dollars. I left the store with a five dollar Free People tank thanks to “Dolla Holla”.

In addition to making money from cleaning out your closet, you also could be helping out a great cause. Unsold clothes is donated to Community Partnership (Alvah Chapman homeless shelter in Homestead) and Cope South High School for girls. Jennifer also makes monetary contributions to the National Alliance of Mental Illness.
