It’s almost time to ring in the new year! Twenty-fourteen is just around the corner and here I am, shocked Christmas is over and we are just days away from the big 2-0-1-4.  Seriously, how did we get here so fast?  At the end of each month, I found myself saying, “Where did this month go?” and now I find myself saying, “Where did this year go?!”

Is this what it feels like to grow up? The days/months/years just start to flash before your eyes? CAN WE SLOW DOWN?!

It seems like it was just yesterday I was writing last years “CELEBRATING NYE” post. No, really… It feels like yesterday. But as I think back on this year, and as I look through all of our posts, I realize what an exciting and successful year it truly has been for Flair Miami.  So, in honor of this year I decided to mention my top 5 FlairMiami highlight moments of 2013.

        1. The Next Face of Rimmel London – This was fun and completely unexpected.  I was at Miami International Fashion Week, where I was asked to sign up for a Rimmel London modeling contest (yes little 5’1 me) and next thing I knew I was selected as one of the top 20 finalist in the nation.  Okay, so I ended up not winning…but it was definitely a highlight from this year! It is a memory I will never forget and it’s all because of Flair Miami that I even stumbled across the opportunity!
        2. Flair Miami Turns 1!  – HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLASHBACK! When I first started on this journey with Flair Miami I never would have thought I’d be able to be a part of the special one year anniversary.  It is just the beginning and I am more than thankful to be able to be a part of it all! To many more birthdays and Flair Miami celebrations!
        3. Style, Sweets & Sips – In honor of Flair Miami’s one year, we decided to celebrate with style, sweets, and sips.  Thanks to all the bloggers who participated in making our one year unforgettable! It was also during this same time that Sabrina joined our team for the summer…actually it was at this very party that I met the lovely Sabrina! When I think back to this time, I think about nothing but fun! I am positive we were all on a Flair Miami high this summer! ;)
        4. Fashion for a Cause – Thanks to The Fashion Poet and Peace, Love, World, Flair Miami was able to be a part of Fashion For A Cause during breast cancer awareness month! This was definitely one of the highlights of my year with Flair Miami!
        5. Miami Web Awards Nomination –  Remember that time Flair Miami got nominated as one of the top fashion blogs in Miami? Oh yeah! That was last month! I think that pretty much sums up this whole year, and although we did not go home with the prize we are happy to say we were nominated and we are even more happy for our friend The Fashion Poet, Annie Vasquez, for winning!

With this year coming to a close and all the wonderful things we were be able to be a part of, I feel extra thankful for 2013 and the opportunities I was able to partake in because of Vannia & the blog.  So, thank you Vannia for not only being such  a wonderful friend, but for truly taking your time to include me & make me a part of Flair Miami! I am beyond thankful!

And thank you to the blogger community and all the readers! We couldn’t have done half of the things we did this year with-out you! To many  more years filled with fun…but even more with FLAIR!

READY…SET…BASEL!!!!! Hmm…where do I begin?

Aqua Miami ✓
Art Basel ✓
Design Miami ✓
Scope ✓
Heineken Garden ✓

It’s that time of year again!! Are you ready for the Basel madness? The event list can go on and on, but I certainly am not complaining. With everything that’s on my to-do list though, I feel like there are so many events but so little time, so how can I possibly keep up with them all?

Well, being that this is my second year doing Art Basel with Flair Miami, I had more of an idea of what to expect and how to prepare myself for everything happening this week.  Being fashionably organized is KEY.

Here are  a few Art Basel MUST haves if you plan on staying fashionable and organized. ;)

  • A fun comfy outfit – You can NEVER go wrong with what you wear to Basel, trust me. Today I chose comfort, here I am wearing a Zara TRF graphic t-shirt, H&M wax denim high-wasted pants, Cotton-on jacket, and Zara wedges. I accessorized my outfit with my Phillip Lim tote and black watch c/o Rakani.

  • A Planner/Calendar – Yes, a planner.  There is no better way to stay organized during Basel week then to have it all written down in a calendar.  This year, I made sure to use my favorite Keep Calm and Carry On planner.

  • Comfortable (but fashionable) shoes – Zara…oh how I love you. These wedges are the perfect pair for Basel.  Expect to do a lot of walking (and maybe even some running) this week.  Save yourself the pain, and stay on the comfy side!

  • A handy dandy watch – Last but not least, don’t leave home without your favorite time piece. Be fashionably late to any Basel event sporting this Rakani watch. Oh, did I mention, that’s what the line is called! Be sure to check out their very fashionable and Basel appropriate Fashionably Late collection. The line is designed to turn the negative notion of being late into a creative and fun concept. So arriving late, no longer means you’re irresponsible or careless, but instead it shows fashion and elegance — pushing the limits with good ol’ Miami-time. This watch is so light and comfortable that I’ve already added another one to my Christmas wish list! ;)
PS: Here’s a little secret, Flair Miami readers can get 40% off any Rakani watch by using the custom code BB40 when checking out at www.rakani.com.

So there you have it! My top Basel must haves to stay fashionably ready for all the events coming your way! Hope to see ya around town! :)

THE NEW GUY CODE

Honor, obedience, nobility, ownership, and respect…

What comes to mind when you read those words?

For Ché Scott, author of I Like Girls: The New Guy Code, these are not just words, but rather a way of life…

Perhaps you’re wondering, who is Ché, and what is this really all about? Well, as we introduce you to this wholesome, handsome man today; we hope you’ll also be challenged to take a stand with him and help make a change…

Ché, is a former University of Miami Football player, a licensed minister, a life coach, and a chaplain for the Miami Heat and UM Hurricanes. He believes in challenging others to find a higher level of thinking, and his biggest dream is for the new generation of men.

Ché believes that honor is to be at the center of all relationships and he is committed to engaging our current culture in this conversation. Through his book, he challenges young men to consider the true value of women while explaining what it looks like to “honor the girl.”

So what’s next and how can you be involved?  On December 18, there will be a South Florida Signing Day, where participating 8th grade boys throughout our region will sign a covenant of honor. All those agreeing to this promise will be certified and recognized locally for making this commitment. Want to get your affiliated school involved? Email Info@NewGuyCode.com. Or, you can order your very own book today and see what the fuss is all about!

You can also checkout Ché ‘s very first book interview as he shares his future plans with Michele Gillen from CBS 4.

This is not only a worthy cause, but also a great book! We recommend it not only to 8th graders, but also to a brother, cousin and even a father.

FALL IN MIAMI

There are several things I love about fall in Miami, okay, okay, maybe just one thing… That I can still enjoy a day at the beach and feel a slight change in the weather with-out freezing.  Even though Miami is sort of…well, season-less, and we may not really experience “falling of leaves”, this time of the year in Miami is perfect. (I’m talking about those occasional chilly/non-humid/great hair days). ;)

With that being said, my outfit post will not consist of sweaters and boots, but of a pair of my favorite pants and strappy heels. As much as I love over-sized sweaters and booties, I prefer light and airy while enjoying fall in the 305.

Happy Friday!

Ever wonder what super foods you should incorporate into your daily diet? It’s easier than you may think, and who knows, you probably have a few of these things hiding in your refrigerator or kitchen pantry.

So, I’ve made it even easier for you and came up with a list of five of my favorite super foods and their benefits!

superfoods

1. Eggs
Whether they’re scrambled, sunny side up, hard boiled, or poached, throwing an egg into your daily diet is actually a good idea.

Eggs are a high source of protein and are a great option to keep you energized through out the day. Egg yolks contain two antioxidants, lutein and zeaxanthin, that reduce the risk for age-related macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 50.

2. Berries
This one may actually be a three-in-one.  Who doesn’t love berries? Blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries each contain different antioxidants and vitamins that are important for your health, and all three of them contain fiber which is good for your digestion.

While raspberries contain ellagic acid – which helps prevent cancer, blueberries contain many antioxidants that help with memory sharpness and weight loss. And let’s not forget about my favorite…strawberries! Strawberries not only act as an anti-inflamitory in the same way that Aspirin and Ibuprofen do, but a couple of strawberries a day actually contain a full-day’s dose of skin firming Vitamin C.

Who knew? So add some color and sweetness to your diet by aiming for a half to a full cup of berries a day. ;)

3. Nuts
Walnuts, cashews, pistachios, almonds…the list can go on and on. Not only is this a perfect snack but its health benefits are some of the best. Studies have shown that those who include nuts in their daily diet live, on average, an extra two years.

Many nuts also contain alpha-linolenic acid which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids that have been linked to heart health.

4. Avocado
Did you know avocados contain high amounts of potassium, magnesium, folate, protein, and vitamins B6, E, and K. Holy Guacamole! :)

Get all the nutrients you need by eating a quarter to a half of an avocado a day.

5. Green Tea
I have to admit, I am a tea lover, and when I did a little research on green tea I was pleased with what I found!

Not only does green tea hydrate the same way that water does, but it is also known to fight cancer, heart disease, and help prevent dementia, diabetes, and stroke. I don’t know about you, but I think this super drink may be a life saver! Enjoy a cup of green tea any time of the day for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

So there you have it, five of my favorite super foods. Which one is your favorite? Any super foods you’d like to share? Comment below!
